DIARY OF TSAR ALEXANDER III FOUND: Seller of Missing 1864 Imperial Journal Detained

Moscow resident was detained while trying to sell the missing 1864 diary of Tsar Alexander III.

Seller of the diary of the Russian tsar, father of Nicholas II,  was detained by police during an unsuccessful attempt to sell the 1864 journal of Alexander III, which was considered missing for many years.

The diary was discovered among several copies of rare books that the same man tried to pawn at one of the auction houses of the capital. Experts estimate that the imperial diary is worth up to 3 million rubles (approximately 45,920 USD).  The other rare books are estimated at approximately the same value. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation issued a statement today that the re-examination study confirmed the authenticity of the remains of Tsar Nicholas II and his family. However, the Russian Orthodox Church is still not ready to make a final conclusion on the question of the authenticity of the remains of the Romanov family.

Recently a very special camera was brought over from Switzerland to Tsarskoe Selo. This camera was donated to the Tsarskoe Selo Museum by the descendants of Pierre Gilliard, the tutor of Tsar Nicholas II’s children, who once purchased it in St Petersburg.

Gillard used this camera to take many photographs of the Romanov  family.
