This ring belonged to Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. It was presented to her in 1914 by an officer from her own 5th Hussar Alexandria Regiment. The skull and bones (Adam’s head) was the emblem of the regiment and symbol of immortality in pre-Revolutionary Russia. This symbol was often used in Russian Imperial Army. Exactly 111 years ago, on 24 August, 1904, the Romanov Dynasty Heir Alexei Romanov, who was born earlier that summer, was christened in the Russian Orthodox tradition. Below are some of the photographs from this event.
Tsarevich Alexei had a number of godparents, including Kaiser Wilhelm. His principal godmother was his grandmother Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna and principal godfather was Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich. Read more ALEXEI ROMANOV: CHRISTENING OF THE HEIR

Based on photographic evidence, the Romanov family certainly had a favorite chair where they loved to pose. One can literally see the imperial children grow up in these “chair” photos. “The Chair” was located in Empress Alexandra Feodorovna’s Mauve Boudoir, near the window. Grand Duchesses Maria and Anastasia – the “little pair” – were too young to get certified as Sisters of Mercy, as their elder sisters and mother did, so they became patrons of their own infirmary at Tsarskoe Selo. At the same time they also regularly visited Grand Duchesses Olga’s and Tatiana’s infirmary. Grand Duchess Maria often mentions these visits in her war time letters and diary.
