From the 1913 diary of Nicholas II:
8th March. Friday. The morning was busy. Between reports 30 bankers from Petersburg and Moscow presented themselves to me and Alix , [they] brought us a million rubles to commemorate the 300th anniversary [of Romanov Dynasty] – for charity. After breakfast, took a walk with three daughters; there was slush from [both] the top and the bottom. Before tea received Gen.[eral] Adj[utant] Ivanov, after tea Langoff. Managed to finish the paperwork before 7 1/2. Went to Mama’s and had dinner with her. At 10 1/2 returned to T.S.
