EMPRESS ALEXANDRA’S RING

This ring belonged to Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. It was presented to her in 1914 by an officer from her own 5th Hussar  Alexandria Regiment.   The skull and bones  (Adam’s head) was the emblem of the regiment and symbol of immortality in pre-Revolutionary Russia. Based on photographic evidence, the Romanov family certainly had a favorite chair where they loved to pose. One can literally see the imperial children  grow up in these “chair” photos. “The Chair” was located in Empress Alexandra Feodorovna’s Mauve Boudoir, near the window. GRAND DUCHESS MARIA: HER SISTERS’ INFIRMARY

Grand Duchesses Maria and Anastasia – the “little pair” – were too young to get certified as Sisters of Mercy, as their elder sisters and mother did, so they became patrons of their own infirmary at Tsarskoe Selo. At the same time they also regularly visited Grand Duchesses Olga’s and Tatiana’s infirmary. Grand Duchess Maria often mentions these visits in her war time letters and diary. The Romanov family members loved to play games, even as adults. Various games are mentioned in their diaries and letters, and readers often would like to know exactly what these games were.  I will use Tatiana’s own writing to discuss some of the games.
