From the 1913 diary of Olga Romanov:

Saturday. 31 August. Swam with Aunt for the last time. Only 13 degrees, took one dip in the water. Left at 10 1/2. We two [rode] in 2 motors with Drenteln and Mordvinov. AKSHV came to bid farewell to Aunt, [I] greeted them. The turns were ghastly. Arrived at Bakhchisarai at 2 1/2, had breakfast there in the house, walked in the garden and the cemetery. Went to the monastery on a cliff, very beautiful. Then walked uphill to old city of Gufut-Kale. Only two old men live there. Had tea in the garden under a chestnut tree. Left a little after 6 o’cl. Aunt Olga, the Princess and Mordvinov stayed and waited for the train. It is so sad that she is leaving. Returned at 9 o’cl. with Drenteln and Stolitza. Foggy and cold on Ai-Petri. The moon. Mama’s heart bothers her, she is tired. Saw my S. through the fieldglass, N.P. too.

  1. Pleasant surprise to see my father’s first cousin Lt. Nicholas N. Rodionov being mentioned in the diary. Thank you for your work on the diary. Now that the “walls” have come down somewhat, I’m enjoying finding more about my family’s history.
