Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich to Nicholas II:

6 August, 1909. Stenkammar

Dear Uncle,

I allow myself to pester you with a letter in order to ask if I may come to you in Peterhof with my sister. Maria received the invitation to come on the 15th of August. We are thinking of leaving Sweden on the 8th directly to Moscow to the Aunt (to pray to God with her at the monastery). We will stay there for about 4 days, and then, if you allow it, I will come to you too.

I only got to see the king and queen once here. This was on the 7th of August, new style, on the occasion of her majesty’s birthday.

This day was spent in Stockholm, and not in Tulgarten, as the king could not leave the capitol due to strikes and anticipated unrest.

Almost everyone in the city went back to work already, although the factories are still on strike. All the Swedes got terribly frightened when the strike began, and [they] sounded the alarm, but in the end were afraid to do anything decisive.

[My] time in Stenkammar went rather quickly. It was “cozy and charming”. At first the weather did not spoil us, there was a lot of rain, but now it is nice.

And now, in order not to remind you of Aunt Ella, I will end my letter and apologize for the annoyance.

I kiss Aunt Alix’s little hands. My heartfelt regards.

Your Dmitri.
