A skerry is a small rocky island, usually too small for habitation, or simply a rocky reef. Each summer the Romanov family boarded the imperial yacht and spent a holiday in Finland, where skerries are prevalent. Grand Duchess Tatiana loved the skerries, she even fondly wrote about her beloved skerries in letters from captivity.

The four Russian grand duchesses Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia, or OTMA as they often referred to themselves, loved and respected each other, as well as other members of their family: their mother, father and little brother, Tsesarevich Alexei. “We 7” is how every member of the close knit Romanov family referred to themselves collectively. Anastasia wrote this letter to a friend, Katya Zborovsky, from captivity in Tsarskoe Selo.
“23 June, 1917. A.N.
My heartfelt thanks for the charming letter, which made me so happy. We too remember everything and constantly talk about it… Each of our days is very structured, therefore they pass rather quickly. Do you remember 24 August, on the “Dnepr”[?] and 11 July?!
