From 1916 diary entries of Grand Duchess Maria Romanov:

“In the afternoon we went up the Dnepr. Ran around in the bushes…”

“Went up the Dnepr in a ferry. Later, Papa and I rowed, while Count Grabbe was behind wheel.”

“Went in motors across the Dnepr 4 with Papa and Mama and the Suite, and walked.”

“Went upstream on Dnepr in a motor, swam 4 with Isa”

“Rode in a motor ferry upstream on Dnepr. Got off to walk. ”

“Rode in a motor boat downstream on Dnepr. Had tea in a tent.”

“Everyone rode in a motor boat up the Dnepr, ran around in the bushes.”

“Rode in the motor boat up the Dnepr. Walked, lounged in the sun and [ran] around the bushes.”
